Asian
artists have developed their own styles of drawing based on subjects, media,
and historical periods. For example, India's Mughal emperors commissioned
drawings based on Greco-Roman models during their Timurid dynasty. The word
'Timurid' comes from 'Timbrukt Timbuul,' which means 'one who draws
beautifully.' Drawing has also played an essential role in Buddhist schools of
Asia. Cave temples dedicated to Buddha were often decorated with artistic
murals showing Buddha's path to enlightenment.
